Dandelion School

(蒲公英中学) is the first and only middle school that is for the children of low-income migrant workers in Beijing.  It is located in Da Xing district of suburban Beijing.  Since its establishment in August 2005, it has been attracting many local and international people who care about children of such category.

Facing a market that is crowed with substandard products, children, especially those from low-income families may be confused and misled by the dictionaries full of misspellings. Having genuine Chinese and English dictionaries has been a dear need of Dandelion School.

With the help of our local volunteer Pairu Chen, CTEF board has passed the request of donating Chinese and English dictionaries to Dandelion School. One hundred and sixty-three Chinese dictionaries (Xin Hua Chinese Dictionary by商务出版社) along with one hundred and sixty-three English dictionaries (Oxford Elementary English-Chinese Dictionary by 商务出版社) were ordered in Hangzhou and shipped to Beijing.

On June 20th 2011 the CTEF volunteers Xin Ge and Pairu Chen delivered the dictionaries to Dandelion School.  Teacher Cheng, representing the school, received the dictionaries from Xin with great gratefulness.  Teacher Cheng provided a brief tour of the school to Xin and expected future opportunities of cooperation with CTEF to support the education of children of low-income migrant workers’.

Thanks heartily to Xin’s mother, Ms. Xie, for spending huge effort and time on getting the donated dictionaries stamped with CTEF’s signature; thanks also to Xin’s husband Jianbo Peng for taking pictures during the dictionary donation tour, and Xin’s oldest Son Patrick for accompanying Xin for the donation!
