The mission of Teacher Award program is to help those volunteering teachers, and non-government-appointed teachers (民办教师, 代课教师或志愿教师) who are working under the hardest circumstances and yet dedicated to education.
The program was launched in the spring of 2011 after CTEF investigated a donor’s suggestion. We found such type of teachers are crucial to the education in the rural China but their incomes are less than 50% of government-appointed teachers, which is often not enough to support their families. We believe by helping those teachers financially to allow them to continue teaching in rural schools, we will help the students in the rural China to get education.
We identify qualified teachers with a set of criteria such as their income level, years in teaching in rural areas in China, recommendations from principals and local volunteers. Each prospected teacher will then fill in an application with supporting materials and CTEF will validate the information. CTEF will then award qualified teachers a small number of grants to help them financially. The teachers will be evaluated annually for their qualification of the award.
The current grants amount is as following:
| Years in teaching | Grant/month |
| 3-5 years | RMB 200 |
| 6-10 years | RMB 400 |
| 11-15 years or more | RMB 600 |
Please visit the Teacher Award Program forum and tell your friends about the teachers we are helping.
If you want to help CTEF to help more teachers, please donate via our donor tool. Your donation will be pooled with other donors to help the teachers in the program.
